All diets works: Flexible, intermittent fasting, intuitive eating, vegan, vegetarian, ketogenic, paleo, etc, etc. But honestly, don’t think of it as a “diet”. You need to find a lifestyle that works for you, not what the current rave and craze is on social media.
A diet consists of temporarily changing your eating habits to promote a certain outcome, which is commonly weight loss with yo-yo effects afterwards. They are merely shortcuts for an specific purpose, basically a quick fix. When it comes to the human physique, anything that is temporary will be effective in the long run, which is of course the only run that ultimately matters.
Diets certainly appear to work, as people see quick transformations and feel better as a result. But the truth is that people who participate in diets don’t keep their weight off. On the other hand, a lifestyle change consists of adopting healthy overall habits that promote long-term results. When it comes to changing your eating habits and transitioning to a healthy lifestyle you need to consider:
Note: Before starting this section take a piece of paper and pen. Answer the following question as honestly as possible
- Make a list of what works for you, your timing and schedule, your likes and dislikes. If you can’t maintain it for 2 weeks, a month, 6 months, a year…how can you maintain it for life?
- Will you enjoy the process while maintaining the changes you have made?Changes regarding fitness and exercise, your food choices, your life choices, today, tomorrow and forever from now.
- What are you aiming for? Carbs, fats and proteins do not make you automatically fat. Overeating in an unconscious manner will lead to fat/weight gain. Conversely, taking-in less calories than you are burning will lead to fat/weight loss. So do not demonize any food, remember to listen to your intuition and find balance.
Make this changes for yourself. Be your inner motivation. Realize you deserve the best that life can give, and you deserve a lifestyle that reflects that.
Have in mind that mistakes and mess ups are bound to happen. It’s ok, you always have time to continue on your journey, the next hour, day, or week is a new chance, just keep moving forward.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is different, everyone’s live are different and you cannot expect the same results.
